Maighréad Ní Ghrásta

Interdisciplinary artist working across voice, sound and performance, exploring language, the body, memory and place through Donegal Irish, traditional vocal practices and experimental sound.

VOICE & SOUND

Voice sits at the centre of my practice. I work with singing, spoken word, traditional Irish vocal forms and experimental sound.

LANGUAGE & PLACE

My work is rooted in the West Donegal Gaeltacht and shaped by my childhood spent in Doire Chonaire. I am particularly interested in the relationship between language, identity, memory and place, and what happens when inherited language and tradition meet contemporary practice.

Performance

My performance practice has developed through more than two decades of music-making, and increasingly through theatre and interdisciplinary performance.
